I offer counselling from a non-religious, humanist perspective. I seek to create a safe space for you to unfold in, to "become who you are".
We can't change the past but we can re-examine the influence it has had on us. We can't change other people, but we can grow and change ourselves.
Counselling is an opportunity to think about the life we want, and to work on making it happen. Sometimes this means identifying and disrupting old patterns that no longer work for us. Sometimes it means becoming more assertive, "emotionally literate", confident or empathic. Sometimes it means being able to tell which people are good for us right now. Sometimes it just means crying out the hurt.
We can outgrow parts of ourselves, and find ourselves in a painful crisis. This is often the point at which someone reaches out for some counselling. As Karen Horney wrote, "the search for ourselves is the most agonizing, isn't it? And yet the most stimulating - and one simply cannot escape it".
Everyone can benefit from taking a step back and thinking things through, in a safe space with someone sharing in the search for understanding. This is what I offer.
I trained in Relational-Centred counselling, and also draw on my knowledge of other modalities including humanistic, psychodynamic, existential, transactional analysis and person-centred. I very much enjoy working with individuals, couples and groups. I work from my home office, or on Zoom.
